Meet the Team: Amanda

Amanda Pultz, Account Manager

Amanda Pultz is an Account Manager at D.I.S. Financial Group. Since joining the team three years ago, Amanda has worked on client portfolios and taken the lead with our client sales and communications.

Jessica Vreugdenhil, Marketing Manager: Thanks for doing this. Don’t worry – I’m going to get to everyone!

Amanda Pultz, Account Manager: I expect you to!

Jessica: Okay, Let’s start off by explaining your role here at D.I.S.

Amanda: I call clients on their renewals, review coverage with them. Make sure they are aware of any recent changes.

Jessica: Do you like talking on the phone with our clients?

Amanda: I LOVE talking on the phone to our clients! I’m a people person.

Jessica: Plus it’s usually a good reason for us calling.

Amanda: Typically for me to call, it’s for a happy reason. “Can we save you money? Can we get you better coverage?” That sort of stuff.
My funniest call was to one particular client, who was like “She’s not home right now!” So I said, “Okay well can you tell her that Amanda is calling from D.I.S. Financial Group?” so then she says, “Oh hey, Amanda!”
She was screening her calls. I thought it was very clever.

Jessica: I’m definitely going to use that for telemarketers! So what’s one thing you wish people knew about working in insurance?

Amanda: Probably the difference between a broker and the insurance company. That we’re working for them. Often people don’t know the difference, and think when they call us – they’re speaking with their insurance company – which can be confusing for them.
There’s also so much people don’t understand about insurance. Which isn’t a slight against them. There really is so much that changes – things that are impacted by government regulations etc. We go through annual training just to keep up with it all. So it really is important that if you don’t have a good working knowledge of your insurance policies, that you have someone who can explain it well and advocate on your behalf. And ask questions! We’re so willing to help people understand.

Jessica: It’s so true. We’re an under-utilized resource. It shows why it’s so important to have someone you trust, working on your behalf. Especially when it comes to claims.

Amanda: Exactly. We had one customer recently come in who had unfortunately experienced a claim, and I helped them through the experience, checking in regularly – and they were so appreciative!

Jessica: It’s an emotional experience! And with everything being automated these days, it’s rare that people are spoken to by actual humans. Which I think people respond to even more during these events.

Amanda: We are trying to do better with that. Occaisionally someone might not hear from their brokers at all because everything has been going well! It’s such a missed opportunity to connect and challenge ourselves to do more for our clients.

Jessica: What’s one of your most memorable experiences here?

Amanda: Staff events are pretty memorable and lots of fun.

Jessica: We haven’t had any in a while! We need to do another taco Tuesday.

Amanda: Yes! Summer Barbeques! Anything surrounding food really.

Jessica: One more. How do you like working in the D.I.S. offices / downtown Whitby?

Amanda: I think our office is super cool and everyone who comes in acknowledges that! So I’m very proud to work in the office. It’s a heritage building that’s has a very open, modern vibe. And I love working with the team here. It’s a comfortable, friendly place to be!

Jessica: The commute is pretty great too, right?

Amanda: It’s amazing. I love working in this area!
